Girl, 14, and boy, 15, arrested on suspicion of murder after man, 46, killed

Eight people have now been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of Terry Leeks, who was stabbed in Northlands Park in Basildon during the early hours of July 11

Two teenagers have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in a park, bringing the total number of people collared to eight.

A 14-year-old girl from Wickford was arrested on suspicion of murder this morning, along with a 15-year-old boy who had previously been arrested.

A murder investigation was launched by police shortly after Terry Leeks, 46, was stabbed in Northlands Park in Basildon at around 1.30am on July 11, Essex Live reported.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he died at the scene.

Paying tribute to Terry last month on what would have been his 47th birthday, his parents said: “We’re devastated by Terry’s death and we desperately need anyone who knows what happened to him to come forwards.

“Terry was always very polite and kind-hearted, he would do anything for anyone. We miss him dearly and want those responsible brought to justice.

“So if you have any information about what happened, no matter how small you think it is, please, please, please come forward and report it.”

Essex Police are continuing to appeal for any information about Terry’s death.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re making good progress with our investigation.

“However, I believe there are still people out there with information about what happened who haven’t come forward yet.

“Do it for Terry and his family.”

A spokesperson for the force added: “We are continuing to appeal for anyone who has any information about Terry’s death to contact us or Crimestoppers.
